WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT ▪️Independent review says Rideau Transit Group needs to improve their maintanence programme. The review had 100 recommendations but stated that the backlog of repairs alone should be a subject of its own investigation. The City has issued two notices of default to the maintenance company which could ultimately result in the Rideau Transit Group being replaced. [Ottawa Citizen] [The Review] ▪️Trillium Line extension opening may be delayed by a year, the Western extension may be delayed by three months. The director of rail construction Michael Morgan reported to City Council that the delays by Rideau Transit Group are caused by lack of concrete and rebar. [CBC] ▪️$38 Million Cultural Hub And Library announced for Barrhaven. The new centre will include a community centre, seniors centre, and a 25,000 square foot library. That library is what caused councillor Carol Anne Meehan to resign from the library board when she accidentally leaked news of it to the local business improvement association. The money will come from Federal, Provincial, and City funds. [Barrhaven Independent] ▪️A national monument dedicated to survivors and victims of the residential school system will be built in a ‘highly visible space’ in Ottawa. The Federal Government made an announcement last Friday that a committee will be formed by May to discuss the project. A national monument was one of the recommendations in the 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission report. [CBC] ▪️That psychologist who said someone was impersonating him, then admitted that wasn't true, has had charges against him withdrawn. And since the charges are withdrawn, he can practise again. In 2007, an Ottawa police officer who lodged sexual harrassment complaints against the police was ordered to to undergo a mental fitness asessment. The officer had a suspicion that the man treating her was not a real psychologist. Finding a psychologist with the same name, both doctor and patient were recorded by the CBC that neither had met each other. After the psychologist reported he was being impersonated to Ottawa Police, he was later charged with public mischief, The police officer maintains that she has never met the (real) psychologist. [CBC] ▪️ Anna and Olivia Melnyk take their places in the Ottawa Senators team photo. The two, daughters of the late Eugene Melnyk, now own the team. The two are the only female owners of a current NHL team and, as far as we can tell, the only ones ever to own a team in their 20s. [CTV] |
