📋 Agenda

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

♨️ Aylmer

  •  City residents are steamed that they must boil water for a sixth day. While the City told the reporter of the article that the reason for the water boiling is that testing found E. Coli, the City’s website doesn’t say why 10,000 residents must do it. (Faith Greco at CBC)

➕ Related Some Aylmer residents think the new garbage trucks are rubbish. New trucks with robotic arms started in May, and since then there have been 4,330 reported complaints of uncollected bins.

🚊 O Train

  •  OC Transpo is now cutting Monday to Thursday evening service on the O Train starting August 26.
  •  Train service will now be cut in half from every 5 minutes to every 10 minutes, between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm. The agency previously annouced the halving of service Monday to Thursday between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. OC Transpo says the cut is because of reduced demand. (Marlo Glass in the Ottawa Citizen)

🚌 Ottawa Student Transportation Authority

  •  Four months after he started, the general manager of the Ottawa Student Transportation Authority has left. The previous interim general manager will take over for the beleaguered agency. Last year’s school year began in farce, as 7,500 families were unable to send their kids to school due to a lack of drivers. (Joanne Laucius in the Ottawa Citizen)

💦 Pepper Spray

  •  A 16 year-old girl was sent to hospital after pepper spray was set off in Rideau Centre Saturday. The shopping centre was evacuated as a precaution. Ottawa Police Service is seeking to identify the people who set off the spray. (Toula Mazloum at CTV)

❤️ Transplant Games

  •  The 10th Canadian Transplant Games are in Ottawa this week. The athletic event welcomes those who have received transplants as well as family members and donors. (Ottawa Citizen) (Schedule)

DEAL OF THE DAY

Heartbeet Farm is selling 15lbs of “seconds” tomatoes (imperfect, unattractive, etc.) that are perfect for preserving and canning for just $30.

Save up to 50% in the Province of Canada Summer Sale.

Save money over single tickets with a subscription to Ottawa Pops Orchestra’s new season.

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Former Ottawa Citizen associate business editor James Bagnall has written a new bookTelecom Tornado: tales from the frontlines of Canada’s capital, outlining the rise and fall of local tech giants, including JDS Fitel, Nortel, and BNR. It’s painful reading – in 2000, Nortel was worth $300 billion, it’s now bankrupt and little more than an inspiration for a t-shirt.
