Today - Byward Market shop Adaawewigamig celebrates Indigenous cuisine and style in its second fashion show. Everything shown on the runway will be available to purchase after the show. You’ll also get to sample delicious food from Pei Pei Chei Ow, who are visiting all the way from Edmonton. Tomorrow - A new exhibition at the Korean Cultural Centre takes a close look at Korean household items throughout the centuries. K-Lifestyle showcases items from the lives of Confucian scholars, ordinary women in the Joseon Dynasty, and contemporary citizens. Work by Korean-Canadians will also be displayed.
- Also opening today, A Glimmering Feel Towards the Now welcomes three contemporary Canadian artists to the City Hall Art Gallery. View the works by Atticus Gordon, Megan Kyak-Monteith, and Alex Sutcliffe from today through May 12 at 110 Laurier Ave, with an Artists’ tour through the exhibition on Sunday May 12 at 2:00 pm. Free.
- At the Ottawa Public Library's Discussion with Author Lawrence Hill, the writer will talk about his works and his “lifelong passion for dramatising neglected corners of Black history in Canada.” Free at the Ottawa Public Library but you must register. The event is part of Freedom to Read Week.
- Elmdale Public Schools Bookfest is the school's biggest fundraiser of the year. Last year's event raised $23,000 and sold thousands of books, many priced no more than $3. Today and tomorrow (Saturday February 24) at 49 Iona St (Java St. entrance).
- African, Caribbean, and Black Wellness Resource Centre marks Black History Month 2024 with Black Expressions, Breaking Free! There will be music and dance as well as an exhibit of the achievements, contributions, and struggles of Black individuals throughout history. 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Saturday - At 9:00 am this morning (Saturday February 24) Beet Box Farm is launching a Sampler Box for those who can’t commit to the full weekly or monthly CSA experience. Purchase up to four produce boxes now, and pick them up when you want them between June and October. The boxes come in small and medium sizes, the latter of which will feed a family or two adults. Starting at $32 these boxes are a great way to become introduced to eating hyper-fresh produce and supporting local farmers.
- Disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Vanier Sugar Shack at the Vanier Museopark is back for the first time in five years. It’s one of the few active sugar shacks located within an urban setting in North America, with just over 17 acres of forest, including 500 sugar maples. Enjoy a walk in the forest, learn about the History of the Sugar Shack (which dates back to the 1940s), wander the forest, and enjoy maple-themed meals from local producers.
- Limited tickets are available for the Moov Ottawa Hip Hop Workshop and Mini Dance Battle with Fines, which brings Toronto Hip Hop star Kevin ‘Fines Birung’ for one day. Just Announced / Now Booking Chorus of Courage appears at the NAC’s Fourth Stage on International Women’s Day, March 8. Comprised of 15 survivors or violence, allies, and songwriters, Chorus of Courage shares stories and experiences through music. The Ottawa Improv Festival (March 14-16) brings performers from home and abroad to town edge-of-your-seat theatricality, learning, and fun. Watch as these fearless thespians create shows on the fly, using suggestions from the audience. If you want to hone your own skills, purchase your place at one of the OIF’s performing and writing workshops. Tickets for the festival, which takes place at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, start at $30. Tickets for the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards Gala on June 8 are on sale now.
