WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

?️ The Civic Election

▪️Mayoral candidate Catherine McKenney has released a financial plan costing out promises made

▪️Mayoral candidate Mark Sutcliffe has also released a financial plan
▪️Reader Linda writes to us and says that the advance voting locations may not be your regular polling place like we wrote yesterday. Always check. Advance voting is until 8 pm today, and again next Friday.

▪️From the Centre of the Universe, the Globe & Mail has a rundown on each of the candidates running for mayor of Ottawa. But if the candidate is not Bob Chiarelli or Catherine McKenney,  they don't have much to say.

The Rest

▪️Ottawa Public Health is recommending spending Thankgiving outside or with window's open. [Ottawa Citizen

▪️Ottawa Police Service constable pleads guilty after donating to the Freedom Convoy. The officer donated  $55 to the cause on the day that the Chief declared the occupation of city streets unlawful. Her guilty plea was for one count of discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act. Both the defense and the prosecution are asking for a forfeit of 40 hours of pay and for her to meet members of the community. [CBC

+ Related Convoy coörganizer James Ralph Bauder wants his trial moved out of Ottawa because he doesn't think that he will get a fair trial here. Bauder, who is representing himself, was told by the judge he can't say ‘I won't get a fair trial’, he'll need to show evidence. He is charged with mischief to obstruct property, disobeying a lawful court order, and obstructing/resisting a peace officer.

+ Related A man in mental health distress was so worried about the Freedom convoy that he set fire to a building to get arrested and protected. The man called previously called the police twice and tried to be admitted to the Civic but was sent to a shelter. After he set fire to a garbage can, he was arrested and – success – got psychiatric treatment while in custody at the Royal Ottawa.

▪️Former Police Chief Peter Sloly said he resigned because he worried that the lack of trust in his leadership would delay backup from other police services. This may be the first time that we heard that Sloly resigned – the City had taken great pains to say the position was vacant but not say if Sloly quit or was fired. Sloly also says that he did not ask for the Emergency Act. [CBC

▪️Local software firm has bought the sponsorship rights for the Ottawa Senator’s helmets. This club will wear the supply-chain-software company logo on their away games but use the Bet99 logo on home matches. [Ottawa Sun
