As paid subscribers (really!) we received a form from the Citizen asking our opinions on various aspects of the paper: what sections we read, etc. (We said: local news and, while we enjoy the Financial Post business section, we don't really need its stories printed twice in the same paper.) But most of the survey was really seeking permission to cut stuff from the paper which just doesn't need to be there anymore: weather, TV listings, stock prices – things that are more readily available online. But shockingly they asked about the comics page and which comics we still read. The comics page, a feature of the Citizen for over one hundred years (we think) is at risk. This cannot happen. But reading between the lines, the Bard of Baxter Road is obviously going to an internal rethink. If you have something that you want the Citizen to improve or change, now is the time to tell them. We're not sure who is leading the change there, but you can't do worse than editor-in-chief Nicole MacAdam. Email to her at nmacadam@postmedia.com with what you would like to see in the Citizen. And remind her to keep the comics page. We'll see you tomorrow – Martha and Darren ?️ Is there something that Ottawa should know about? Email to us at hello@theottawan.com. We read every single comment. |

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT ▪️Canada Post has released their shipping dates for posting gifts and cards from Ottawa. You have until the 20th for local parcels but get your prezzies off to Vancouver or Halifax by this Thursday. Christmas cards should make it across town if you post by the 21st but your cousins in Come-by-Chance and Spuzzum will need a post date of the 17th. International packages: you're probably too late for the cheap stuff but Priority Post needs can go until the 15th. [CTV] ▪️Six cases related to Legionnaires disease have been found in the Outaouais. The bacteria legionellosis has made six people sick but, no known common source has yet been found. The health authority says that cases are found every year, so a common source may not be the cause. [CBC] ▪️The Bulldog has some great questions to which the commissioner of the public inquiry into the Light Rapid Transit system should get answers. Questions like, ’Is there now a complete record of the downtown land purchases for the line and has it been released to the public?’ and ‘Why did a subsidiary of SNC-Lavalin get the contract for the Trilium Line when it failed the technical standards for the plan twice and the committee scrutinizing the bids said SNC’s company should not get the contract?’ [Bulldog Ottawa] |
