HELLO OTTAWA

🚊 NO Train: Day 2️⃣5️⃣

Here are today’s updates on the closure of the Confederation Line.

Look up in the sky

Reader Logan points out to us that debris from Comet 109/P Swift-Tuttle is what causes the Perseid meteor showers. While the comet itself last dropped by in 1992, the Perseid meteor showers happen every year. Our article yesterday implied that these meteor showers were concurrent with the visiting comet and so, pretty rare.

And this itself makes it seem like the comet is coming around, which it is not. Comet 109/P Swift-Tuttle’s next visit is 2126, around the time the O Train will be fixed.

In any case, the best viewing will be just before dawn on Monday and around 10:00 pm on Sunday.
