THE DAILY POLL

Do we still need physical offices for Members of Parliament?

Yes, not everyone has a phone or computer

No, everyone has a phone or computer, it's a waste of money

Yes, because it is someplace to protest

No, because it’s a focal point for harassment

  • Previously in ottawan polls:

  • We asked, ‘Do we need a new hockey area in LeBreton Flats?

    • 33% Yes, downtown is a great location

    • 29% No, we have a perfectly good arena in Kanata

    • 12% Lansdowne has shown that building a retail district around a sporting venue is a great idea

  • 25% Lansdown has shown that building a retail district around a sporting venue is not a great idea

  • Commentary

▪️ “Land would be better used to provide low-cost homes close to downtown. So of course [sic] we’ll into the 1% so they can make more money. 🤮”

▪️ “It should have been built there a decade ago. It straddles both O-Train lines which makes sense as opposed to building it out in the country side where it is now.”

▪️ “For those of us in the East end, using the LRT will make it accessible. Easier for out of town visitors also.”

▪️ “There won’t be sufficient parking. Unless transit or shuttles from a parking area are going to ease the burden, it’ll be a nightmare.”

▪️ “Why let those rich folks get richer with all of us paying more for tix for years!”

▪️ “How long before the Sens are at the City’s door with their hands out for some resident-funded taxpayer support? Why wouldn’t they after seeing the sweetheart deals the Lansdowne gang have managed to get from Ottawa?”

▪️ “There’s absolutely no need to duplicate infrastructure we already have. Don't get me started on Lansdowne 2.0.”

▪️ “Let’s hope they put an indoor water and amusement park in the old arena once the Sens move.”

▪️ “The Canadian Tire centre is car cancer and having a stadium downtown and accessible by transit/walking is huge.”

▪️ “I think we need a downtown location of the Sens, but not sure we can afford a new arena at Lansdowne too.”

▪️ “The advantage over Lansdowne is simple, LeBreton Flats is on the LRT.”

▪️ “It should have always been downtown. Anyone east of downtown has to travel so far to Kanata is ridiculous and almost all major cities have their major sports arenas downtown.”

  • British journalist Dan Rivers, who covers the White House, tweeted out the picture below. The picture is of a press release handled to the assembled journalists to help illustrate why US president Donald Trump needed to take over the Washington DC police force and has called in the National Guard to fight crime.

  • The chart shows the murder rate in 11 world capitals, with Washington at around 27 per 100,000 population and London at, maybe, 2.

  • The White House also spelt it Ottowa.
