Across the US border, the folks there are having some sort of event that seems to be stressing people out. If you prefer to bite your nails with strangers and a beer in your hand, here are some locations offering viewing of the US election results: |
🇺🇸 The US ambassador to Canada, David Cohen, will be holding court at Metropolitain Brasserie |
🇺🇸 Union Local 613 |
🇺🇸 Local Kamala Harris supporters are meeting at the Carleton Tavern. |
/ |
🇺🇸 Heart and Crown ByWard location. |

STATISTICS OTTAWA |
|
$48 million |
– The amount of money the Province is giving the City of Ottawa to support public safety on transit. Spread over three years, the money is intended to, amongst other things, increase the number of uniformed special constables and pay for alternative mental health support. | | William Eltherington and Ted Raymond at CTV |

OTTAWAN OF THE DAY |
Susan Margles |
- The former Chief People and Safety Officer at Canada Post has been appointed the new chief executive officer of the Ottawa International Airport. She will replace Mark Laroche who is retiring after 12 years in the position. | | Josh Pringle at CTV |

QUOTE |
❝ | | The only problem is 2.9% doesn’t mean 2.9% |
|
|
– Neil Saravanamuttoo, arguing that the City is misleading when it plans a ‘a 2.9% property tax increase, plus an increase to the transit levy’. There is only one one municipal tax levy that taxpayers pay – ‘It would be like saying your $3,000 monthly mortgage payment is really only $2,500, because $500 of that payment is to cover the garage rather than the house’. | | What I'm Looking For in Ottawa's 2025 Budget |

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT |
🏥 Carleton University |
▪️Carleton University is launching a new nursing programme, the first one in Ontario in 20 years. The new Bachelor of Science in Nursing will be a compressed three year and welcome 110 students. Classes begin September 2025. | | Ted Raymond at CTV |
|
|
❄️ Chief William Commanda Bridge |
▪️The Chief William Commanda Bridge will again be closed this winter due to snow. While the 140 year-old bridge connecting Ottawa to Gatineau was opened to cyclists and pedestrians last year after a $24-million revamp, the City did not contemplate people using it in winter and closed it after the first snow. This year, the City will be installing gates to prevent people from merely ignoring posted signs. | | CBC |

|
🚌 Transit Study |
▪️The Transportation Research at McGill group is ‘undertaking research aimed at understanding how people in Canada experience transport in their regions and what their public-transit needs are’. One of the group’s study areas is Ottawa-Gatineau, so let them know what you think here. | | Kary Glynnes Elliot at Ottawa Transit Riders |
