Today - It’s finally here. The 2024 edition of Ottawa Bluesfest takes over LeBreton Flats tonight through July 14 with an incredible lineup of music. All six stages are packed with entertainment at tonight’s opening show, including headliners Mother Mother from Quadra Island, BC.

- Rainbow Bistro welcomes Day 1 of the sixth edition of Sitting on the Outside Fest, a local DIY punk and hardcore celebration. The $25 ticket will get you into tonight's show to see Cell Death (from Charlottetown), The Hell (Cleveland, USA), Wet Specimens (Albany) Science Man (Buffalo) and many more. The festival continues all weekend at various venues around town.

Tomorrow - 🆓 ‘Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.’ The absurdism of 60-year old Cold War satire Dr Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb seems perfectly in tune with our weird world of 2024. Capital Pop-Up Cinema presents a free screening of the Kubrick classic at Beechwood Cemetery, tonight at dusk (around 8:45 pm). Bring your own picnic (be sure to take your trash with you), blanket, and lawn chair. Popcorn, gummies, and water will all be available for sale.
- Famous bluesmen Nickelback hit the RBC stage tonight at Bluesfest. Your general admission ticket will get you access to all stages and all performances. Tickets $110 including fees and tax.
- Rum Ragged headlines Almonte Celtfest, with special guests Mariner’s Curse. Tickets $30. There’s more great music all weekend but the festival doesn’t stop there. If you want to take up a new instrument or brush up your skills, check out the series of workshops happening on Saturday morning ($25 per student). On Sunday, there's a Fiddle Mass. All main stage performances are in Gemmill Park (182 Bridge St, Almonte, ON K0A 1A0), but you’ll also find talented buskers in the downtown area. Finally, food and drink vendors will be there to perk you up when your energy wanes.
- Music and Beyond summer music festival welcomes big names like the Phaeton Trio, Miloš, Utrecht String Quartet II, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Payadora Tango Ensemble, Hannaford Street Silver Band, and Armour & Lacroix, but we’re also intrigued by the way that the festival explores how music interacts with with other arts disciplines like Circus and Film. The festival runs today through July 17, with the main series happening at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre and Outside the Core events popping up around town. Single concert tickets and festival passes are now on sale.
- It’s all to, um, draw for at the Art Battle City Championships at Overflow Brewing, as the participants create artworks under pressure, in the hopes of moving on to the Canadian National Championships in Toronto. Who knew that art was a competitive sport?!
- Sitting on the Outside local DIY punk and hardcore festival’s second gig of the weekend is at the Rideau Curling Club (715 Cooper St).
- A massive 12 sonic creators from Ottawa and beyond, at two different venues, all in a single night: That’s the music event that is Coriolis: 5 years of Fun, presented by Congrego and Montréal’s Also Cool. Head to Club SAW for the first part of the night, then make your way to city at night for part two. Tickets are $35 at the door, or $20 plus charges online.

Just Announced / Now Booking There’s nothing like a beer festival on a warm summer night, with local craft breweries and wineries showcasing their products, musicians creating the vibe, and food vendors filling the belly. The Almonte Craft Beer Fest happens rain or shine at Almonte Old Town Hall from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm on Friday July 26. $25 (taxes and fees included). It’s a popular event, but not a huge event, so get your tickets now before it sells out. The 34th annual Ottawa Lebanese Festival is (mostly) all about the food, but it also features entertainment, cultural traditions, a midway for kids of all ages, a marketplace, and a tour of the festival venue, St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral.
