  • It will be a busy day at Aurelius Fine Olive Oils and Balsamic Vinegars today. Celebrate the shop’s anniversary with specials, tastings, and even a cupcake.
  • 🆓 Seven Acres Family Farm is open 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Fridays through Sundays until Halloween for Pick Your Own Pumpkin visits. There’s no entrance fee; just pay for the pumpkin you pick to take home. 14747 Neville Road Ingleside, ON, K0C 1M0.
  • The Pelican Seafood Market’s Shellfish Fest begins tomorrow (Thursday September 19) and offers special menus, Daily Oyster Specials, a Shellfish Happy Hour of Seafood Towers, and more, until October 20.
  • Taste of Wellington returns this Saturday September 21 with offers and events from participating businesses. You’ll have to visit in person to experience the samples, events and sales.
  • Gburger is popping up at Dominion City Brewing tomorrow (Thursday September 19) from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
  • Sad news: Equator Coffee is closing its Stittsville location (the former Quitters Cafe); the final service is tomorrow (Thursday September 19).

Thanksgiving Meals update:

If you’re cooking your own turkey-centred feast, contact your favourite butcher now to order the bird:

  • Ottawa Street Markets is supplied with grass fed birds by Merrifield Poultry Farm. Orders must be in by September 26, and will be ready for pick up October 9, 11, and 12.
  • Wellington Butcher offers turkeys, ham, or prime rib roasts for Thanksgiving. A $10 deposit is required. Order three or more Turkey side dishes (gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, veggie sides, pumpkin pie) and receive 10% off.

  • The Piggy Market has birds from Scotch Line Turkey Farm, hams from Laverne in Navan, apple pies made from Northern Spy apples from Hall Orchards in Brockville, and lots of other goodies for your table.

If you prefer to spend more time with your people than working away over a hot stove, order a heat-at-home meal with all the trimmings:

A final piece of advice: Wear your comfort-band pants no matter what you're serving, because the Thanksgiving meal doesn't end until the dessert plates have been cleared away:

  • From the decorated cookies to the Apple Caramel Cakes and Pumpkin Pecan Streusel Cheesecake (and that’s not even the full lineup),  3 Tarts Bakery has you covered.

  • Or check out Strawberry Blonde Bakery’s seasonal treats, from cinnamon buns to Pumpkin Spice Cake Pops.

  • Over at Dessert First there's a classic line-up including Sticky Toffee Pudding, Turtle Pie (just like the candies but in pie form), Maple Pumpkin Pie, and White Chocolate and Cherry Sourdough Bread Pudding.

  • At Thyme And Again you’ll have to choose between your love of cheese (Apple Cheddar Galette), peanut butter (Peanut Butter Caramel Cheesecake, and truffles (the vegan Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Tart).

Oktoberfest Plans Part II

  • Dominion City Brewing’s Oktoberfest shindig this Saturday (September 21) promises traditional games, a bierhalle fit for your most stylish lederhosen, and German-style food provided by North and Navy and Almanac Grain. Add live music and 17 taps of fine beer and you’ve got a party. Tickets from $17.31.  On the same day, you can book one of two seatings at the sixth annual Orléans Brewing’s Oktoberfest event. Your ticket ($38.61) includes a free beer, a free t-shirt, prizes, games, and great music. Plus, there’s a cash bar food tent for when you get really hungry from dancing.  At Beyond the Pale, no mere single day party is adequate to contain the brewery's massive Oktoberfest event; instead it's nine days of seasonal specials, German food, live music, and even a new beer launch. It's all bookended by two weekend parties. September 28 - October 6.

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🛻 Wellington Street

  • The Federal government blames the City for breaking off talks to transfer it a section of Wellington Street. After the Convoy siege, the Federal government asked the City to engage in talks for it to take over the bit of Wellington Street in front of the Parliament buildings. The Federal government hopes to extend its security cordon but also to create a unified Parliamentary district. The City says that it has not yet received a formal offer, but some believe the heel dragging is a reluctance to impede auto traffic. ( Estelle Côté-Sroka and Arthur White-Crummey at CBC

🥅 Lacrosse

  • Ottawa’s new professional lacrosse team, the Ottawa Black Bears, has announced its inaugural schedule. The first match will be November 29 against Toronto Rock at the Canadian Tire Centre. (Ted Raymond at CTV

🚧 Mining

  • Québec is not willing to fund a proposed graphite mine near the town of Duhamel. The La Loutre mining project, an hour north of Ottawa, is the subject of controversy amongst rural residents who don’t want the area developed. Québec says that the project does not meet its requirement for local support. Graphite is used in electric car batteries and may have an important future use in computer chips. (CBC

🏫 Ottawa Carleton District School Board

  • The new Maplewood Secondary School will stay closed for the foreseeable future. In an update yesterday, the Board told parents and students that there is now no timeline for when the school will open. It was supposed welcome its first students yesterday. The Board is blaming a contractor for the wait. (Dave Charbonneau at CTV)
