HELLO OTTAWA

Thursday food + drink

Yes, it’s true: Martha thought yesterday was Thursday, so she wrote about things to do this weekend. Today, therefore, we present the usual Wednesday food and drink updates from around town.

▪️The patio at Khao Thai will remain open until the end of this month, which means that there are just a few short weeks left to enjoy the fine Thai dining and cocktails in the great outdoors. And while reservations are taken for indoor dining, it’s first come first served on the patio. 103 Murray St, Ottawa.

▪️The Piggy Market has announced that they’re offering sandwiches again, and today’s sammy special is a Buffalo Chicken Wrap with bacon, lettuce and tomato on a whole wheat tortilla. 400 Winston Ave, Ottawa.

▪️Über chef Justin Champagne is launching a new restaurantPerch, this autumn. Champagne was previously sous-chef at Atelier and chef de cuisine at Bar Lupulus.

▪️For some reason, US business magazine Forbes has a feature on the vegan options in Ottawa. It's a reasonable round-up.

▪️Braumeister Brewing has opened a taproom in Hintonburg at 175 Carruthers Ave, showcasing their German-inspired beers. The kitchen will be managed by Bistro Polo, featuring heart-busting fare like pierogies, sausages, sandwiches, and meatballs. Salads, too. The original Braumeister remains open in Carleton Place.

▪️The Rainbow Bistro in ByWard Market will be closing soon unless a new owner is found. The founder says the COVID-19 response money has paid some of the bills but not all of them and time has run out.

▪️Here’s another item for the weekend: Celebrate the “Elvis of Merengue” Johnny Ventura at ByWard Market this Sunday September 12th. From 3:00pm to 7:00pm the Asociación Cultural Dominicana Ottawa will present free music and dancing at the George Street Plaza (between William and ByWard Market Square).

Deal of the day

Aux Delices Bakery is offering its colourful and delicious Christmas Cookie Advent Calendars at special bulk rates. One costs $65, two for $150 and four for $290. Choose from sugar cookies and flourless gingerbread or a mix of both. Order now for pickup or delivery November 26th to 28th.

We'll see you tomorrow – Martha and Darren
