    •  Shannon Sargent’s death at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre has been ruled a homicide. Sargent died in 2016 two weeks after open heart surgery. Hours before her death, Sargent was brought to the Civic campus for a medical assessment but then was returned by the Correctional Service escort without taking her to triage. The coroner's inquest made 37 recommendations, including that the Ministry of the Solicitor General consider providing an independent advocate to protect the interests of inmates. Just Announced / Now Booking

This is an eye-opening comment on a Québec message board. The writer is a French national who has traveled to Canada on a working student visa. She started in Montréal, is now in Ottawa and wants to know ... should she go on to Toronto or just move back to France?

    Some pros of Canada:

    • Higher salary than in France
    • Snow and 4 seasons during the year
    • Security

    Some cons of Ottawa:

    • Doesn’t like the Ottawa vibe
    • The homelessness
    • The hypocrisy of some people ( politeness ) so as not to be in conflict with anyone and to keep the decorum
    • Very American culture and superficiality / materialism
