CHELSEANS OF THE DAY |
The Western Chorus frog |
Western Chorus frogs can sleep easier now that the Nature Conservancy of Canada has bought a stretch of land connecting Gatineau Park to the Ottawa River. Known as the Breckinridge corridor, the land will be protected from development. The rare West Chorus frog is found only in the Outaouais and Montérégie regions. | | Annie Tuba in the Ottawa Citizen Frog photo |

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT |
🚌 OC Transpo |
▪️Local students’ union execs double down on their stand against student fare increases. The University of Ottawa Students Union says its contract with O Transpo requires negotiations and a referendum by the student body to increase U Pass prices. It notes that OC Transpo had been talking to the University but not the Students’ Union. Carleton University’s Students Union said that it has no intention of running a referendum and to ‘run a referendum without our support would be very challenging’. | | Julie Chadwick in Capital Current |

🛋️ Housing |
▪️Rent in Ottawa decreased 3 per cent in November. The average rent for a one bedroom was $2,045 in October, dropping $36 to $2,019 last month. | | Josh Pringle at CTV |

🎾 Tennis Anyone? |

❄️ Rideau River pedestrian bridge |
▪️The City has closed the brand new Rideau River pedestrian bridge for the winter, installing signs that read ‘no winter maintenance’. The bridge, which was opened only six months ago and constructed in an era where we know that it snows in Ottawa, connects Vincent Massey Park to Carleton University. The City’s director of roads and parking services, Quentin Levesque, says it was closed for safety reasons as the National Capital Commission does not maintain paths on the south end during the winter. | | Faith Greco at CBC |

OTTAWA HISTORIC LOGO T-SHIRTS |
An Ottawa Historic Logo t-shirt would probably make a terrific Christmas or Hanukkah gift – but it’s too late.
You can order if you like – we’d never say no to a sale – but the chances of the t-shirt making it to you before Dec 23 is pretty much none. It’s a great way to ring in the New Year, though. |
