🙏 Kenneth Sidney Vowles

•  Flags at City Hall will be lowered to half-mast tomorrow in honour of Kenneth Sidney Vowles. Vowles represented Orléans in the former City of Gloucester, which eventually merged into the City of Ottawa. He passed away July 15. (City of Ottawa)

📺 Preston Street Bridge

•  Now that The Bear and The Boys have finished their seasons, the next smash streaming show has to be The Preston Street bridge. Starting this evening at 8:00 pm, workers will move – live – the replacement bridge on the Queensway over Preston Street into place. Drivers will find detours for the eastbound lanes between Carling Avenue and Metcalfe Street, and for westbound lanes between Bronson and Parkdale avenues until Monday. (Marlo Glass in the Ottawa Citizen)

🪧 Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa

•  The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa and its striking workers are going into mediation next Monday. Besides pay, a key issue is a plan by the Province to cut 20 workers from the Society. (Catherine Morrison in the Ottawa Citizen)

🚗 Ottawa Police Service

•  The Ottawa Police Service is asking for help to identify the driver of a Black Ford Mustang. On June 4, police approached the car at a traffic stop when it turned around a fled. Later, the Mustang was found abandoned but Ottawa’s CSI found evidence linking it to an unsolved murder. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit 613-236-1222, extension 5493. (Natasha O’Neill at CTV)

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Scrolling mindlessly on our phones, we were capitivated by Montréal artist Raymond Biesinger’s reproductions of old trade magazine covers like ‘Fallout on the Farm’, a booklet for post-nuclear war farmers by the Canada Department of Agriculture or this beautiful ‘Eggs and Egg Products’ booklet cover, designed by the late Mary Brett.

But Biesinger also has a great collection of posters of old Ottawa. Lost buildings, music venues, a 1946 vacation map and more. So much fun.
