Waste-to-energy, at very first glance, sounds like a fine idea, but at second glance, it’s not a good idea at all - – Executive director of Community Action for Environmental Sustainability, Angela Keller-Herzog, whose group opposes the idea of burning the city’s rubbish to generate electricity. The idea is one of several ideas the City is mulling to extend the life of the Trail Road landfill. Keller-Herzog says the problem with waste-to-energy is the emissions.

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT |
💼 Who do you call when you accuse the Better Business Bureau of bad behaviour? Last June, the International Association of Better Business Bureaus expelled the non-profit organization that ran Better Business Bureau services for eastern Ontario, Quebec, and northern Alberta for ‘not meeting standards’. Unable to use the Better Business Bureau trademarks, the non-profit renamed itself to Nearby Incorporated and attempted to maintain local members. After layoffs, two former staff members are suing for back pay. – Arthur White-Crummey
⚕️Neighbours of the Royal Ottawa’s mental health centre are upset that the proposed Matthew Perry House would take up ‘valuable community green space’ and want it shifted to a parking lot. Both proposed locations are on Royal Ottawa property. The Common Sense Planning Coalition want to continue to use the green space as public land, the Royal Ottawa says that it needs all the parking space that it has. The actor Matthew Perry, who died of an overdose in 2023, spent his school years in Ottawa. – Trevor Pritchard and Nathan Fung at CBC
🚧 Stittsville ward councillor Glen Gower says there is a clash between the City’s official plan for Stittsville Main Street and Provincial orders to increase housing. The official plan permits maximum heights of four storeys but the new Provincial rules will allow buildings of four, six, and nine storeys, depending on the area. – Councillor Glen Gower |

The Times of London newspaper dropped by Ottawa to mark the reintroduction of the Ottawa – London passenger air service and was pretty nice about it. He did insult the Beavertail as a ‘spitting image of a flunked [Great British] Bake Off challenge’ but he also noted that the Peace Tower is two metres taller than Big Ben’s home, the Elizabeth Tower. – Mike MacEacheran in the Times of London |
