Eleven Indigenous artists have been commissioned to create artwork for the Ādisōke, the new Ottawa Public Library – Library and Archives Canada joint facility.

The City has put together a short, tight video to get to know the artists: Dee Barsy, Mary Anne Barkhouse, Destiny Swiderski, Jaimie Isaac, Naomi Blondin, Verna Stevens, Emily Brascoupé, Claire Brascoupé, Mairi Brascoupé, Barry Pottle, and Katherine Takpannie.

•  City staff want authority to negotiate and sign Lansdown 2.0 contracts without prior Council approval. A report going to the Finance Committee next week makes this recommendation: ‘

🔥 McKeen Metro

•  The McKeen Metro in the Glebe has reopened after a fire Sunday. The Glebe Apothecary, next door, remains closed until further notice. (William Eltherington at CTV)

🚨 Ottawa Police Department

•  The constable found guilty of discredible conduct in an off-duty fight with teenagers will be docked 10 days' pay. Prosecutors had asked for 40 days. The presiding officer ruling of Constable Pierre Fournier were because of ‘Improperly detaining, using profane, mocking language, and allowing the escalation to physical contact is not acceptable and has indeed tarnished the reputation of the OPS’. Fournier represented himself and had asked for zero days docked pay plus an apology from the Inspector of the Professional Standards Unit, the prosecutor, and the Ottawa Police Association. (William Eltherington at CTV)

🐈 Ottawa International Airport 

•  Athena the cat has not yet been found but volunteers have heard her respond to a male cat. The pregnant cat had escaped from a carrier in the parkade but searchers remain hopeful as they brought in a talkative male cat to whose yowls Athena was heard to respond. The kittens are due within weeks. Yesterday, we misidentified Athena as Boots. We apologize to the moggie. (Leah Larocque at CTV)

📸 Costco

•  The Merivale Road Costco has started comparing photos with faces to cut down on card sharing. Now, when a shopper enters, they must scan their Costco card and an employee verifies that the recorded photo matches the account. The idea is to crack down on card sharing and increase the number of memberships, which starts at $60 per year. (Tyler Fleming at CTV)
