HELLO OTTAWA  

Late winter always seems to drag on. As much as Darren and Martha love sitting inside by the fire looking out at the snow, even we have had enough of the white stuff, already. Luckily, news of Saint Patrick’s Day specials and offers have started to flood our social media feeds and inboxes.

▪️Brockville’s 4 Degrees Brewing has launched Northern Leprechaun (Light Lager), and is planning something fun at the taproom for the 17th. 

▪️Barley Mow locations will be offering half price appetizers and live entertainment on Thursday.

▪️The live music will be flowing between noon and 4:00pm on Thursday at Ashton Brewing. 113 Old Mill Rd in Ashton, Ontario. 

▪️Over at the farm to table entry Maker Feed in Cumberland, Beef Wellington, potato boxties (Irish potato pancakes) and minty peas are the Saint Patrick’s Day dinner menu. 2607 Ch. Old Montréal Road, Cumberland, Ontario. 

▪️Mulligans Golf Bar’s Saint Patrick’s Day menu features features a selection of stouts and Irish whiskies, but my head was turned by the delicious-sounding Braised Beef Poutine ($16). 201 Queen Street. 

▪️Deacon Brodies isn’t charging cover on Saint Patrick’s Day, so it will be easy to convince yourself to dive into their special Ceilidh (“KAY-lee”) from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. You’ll hear lots of music including pipes, and enjoy that, um, Scottish delicacy Haggis. Enter the fundraising raffle for a Guiness Beer Fridge, with proceeds going to Ukraine Emergency Relief. Then, from 9:00pm to 1:00am listen to the Skylar Radmore and his band. Anyone wearing a kilt will be offered a free dram. 247 Elgin Street.

⭕ The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board will not keep masks mandatory in its schools. The Monday night vote on whether to keep the masks was split 50 - 50 by the school trustees. Board rules say a tie means the vote failed. [CTV]

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️Gatineau speedster receives $6,000 in fines. The 22 year-old was driving 70 km/h over the 90 km/h limit in Luskville and attempted to evade police. The driver was arrested and the car impounded. The car does not belong to him. [CityNews]

▪️A group that is concerned that wind turbines may be built in West Ottawa is still concerned. Ottawa Wind Concerns, which put up hundreds of ‘Stop the Ottawa Wind Turbines’ signs over the past year is still suspicious that the City is trying to put one over them and put up 700 secret windmills.. [Ottawa Wind Concerns]
