WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT |
🚌 OC Transpo |
▪️OC Transpo blames delayed maintenance and congested roads for missing 915 bus trips last week. The agency says there is a backlog in ‘preventative maintenance, bodywork, and other work orders’. The union says ‘These are all issues that we could have predicted, we could have planned’. | | Nathan Fung and Gabrielle Huston at CBC News |
|
|
🚮 Three Item Limit |
▪️The City is now selling yellow garbage bags for those who need to put out more than three items on garbage day. The bags will sell for $17.60 for a package of four. In November, the garbage collectors will still collect excess bags but will leave a chiding note. In December, the bag will be left behind. With a chiding note. Yellow bags can be purchased at: |

🚽 Rogers Centre Ottawa |
▪️An unexpected development of the naming rights change from Shaw Centre to Rogers Centre Ottawa – taxi drivers can again use the washrooms. While it happened around the same time, we’re not sure about how – or if – it is related. The Shaw Centre once previously allowed taxi drivers to use its washrooms but stopped last year. The union Unifor requested that taxi drivers have access again, and it was granted, even though the Centre is not a Unifor shop. | | John Quintet at iPhoneInCanada.com |

|
🏡 Carty House |
▪️Carty House has opened a second shelter for refugee women fleeing abuse or violence. The new house in Vanier will house 15 women for up to two years, increasing the total to 27. | | Victor Vigas Alvarez at CBC Donate |
|
|
🚌 Renfrew County Schools |
▪️Kids in Renfrew County will be able to take the school bus once again starting today. Over 10,000 students had needed to find alternative transportation since school began this year after a money dispute between the school boards and the bus operators. | | William Eltherington at CTV |

BUT, ONE MORE THING … |
More Old Ottawa East rat news, unfortunately. Ottawa ByLaw inspectors thought they may have put paid to the problem when they ordered a clean-up of a hoarding household but the problem is running much deeper. Residents report rats running through a street party, showing up at a kid’s badminton match, and one person said a rat appeared in a toilet before turning tail back down the pipers. The City is now putting poison bait in the local sewers. |
