🐔 Presumably in some sort of fever from the heat, the Buffalo Sabres tweeted out what chicken wing flavour represents their opponents. The Sens were declared ‘plain’. For comparison, the Leafs are ‘choking hazard’ and the Canadiens are ‘steamé’.
🥙 At Eat the Strip, Ameya Charnalia found, next to a cigar store, ‘some of the best Syrian kebabs in the city’. And it is not just the kebabs at two month-old Mr Kebab, Charnalia says, as the resto has ‘some of the best baba ganoush and muhammara I’ve had in Ottawa’.
🐔 In the Ottawa Citizen, Peter Hum and Sofia Misenheimer have joined forces to find where ‘Ottawa locals go for the best ice cream’. Their survey found: Beachconers Microcreamery and Love and Electric Ice Cream, Carp Custom Creamery, Chris’ Ice Cream, Farinella, Farinella Kanata and Farinella Snack Bar, Ice Flame, Kawartha Dairy, Lois ’n’ Frima’s Ice Cream, the Merry Dairy, Moo Shui Ice Cream, Pasticceria Gelateria Italiana, Piccolo Grande, Sadie Bean’s Ice Cream, Saffron Rolled Ice Cream and Desserts, and Stella Luna Gelato Café.

Yes, obviously Nepean isn’t a city on its own. Tell it to your cat.

Some parts of society felt as though (convalescent homes) were not going to serve these young men . . . if they got into the habit of having a luxurious, relaxing life, that they might never again return to being workers in the Canadian economy
– City of Ottawa built heritage research coordinator Kirsty Walker on the controversy at the time of building convalescent homes for wounded soldiers returning from the First World War.
One of those homes, Winterholme in Sandy Hill at 410-412 Besserer Street, was built for Sir Sandford Fleming in 1904 and is now being given heritage status. In its long history, it also briefly housed the Embassy of China.

WHAT’S GOING ON AT CITY HALL

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
🚌 Passengers have discovered that some bus routes take so long that OC Transpo changes them twice. Transit riders have a 90 minute window to use a transfer but some trips – like Tunney's Pasture to Barrhaven – now take close to two hours under the new way to bus. – Arthur White-Crummey at CBC
🤝 Two more ‘safe trade zones’ have been created by the Ottawa Police Service. The new locations are in the parking lots of the police stations at 245 Greenbank Road and 4561 Bank Street. ‘Safe trade zones’ are places that people who buy and sell items online can meet for the handover and feel relatively safe. While constables are not stationed in the zones, it would take a very nervy criminal to attack a person in the police parking lot. The area is also monitored by video. – The Ottawa Citizen
🛢️ The Leamy Lake beach closure is related to a spill of ‘hydrocarbon’. We knew that the beach was closed yesterday due to a spill but the substance was not known. The substance is still not known, but because a National Capital Commission spokesperson said ‘Mitigation measures have been in place since yesterday and have helped limit the extent of the spill, including a boom barrier that absorbs hydrocarbon products’, it has become slightly clearer. Without any other information, we would suspect gasoline or diesel fuel. – Ted Raymond at CTV
💸 Over 1,800 tips about out-of-province license plates have been received by Gatineau police. Québec requires that people who move there register their car within three months or face $336 in fees and fines. The reports stem from a request by Gatineau police for residents to report their friends and neighbours who have overstayed the grace period. – Josh Pringle at CTV

THE DAILY POLL
Have you ever used a ‘safe trade zone’ for something that you bought online?
▪️ “The next head of OC Transpo should agree to commute via OC Transpo.”
▪️ “Multiple city councils and consecutive mayors have bungled, underfunded, and thrown OC Transpo under the proverbial bus. No single person is going to be able to “fix” OC Transpo.”
▪️ “The City should at least consider hiring someone with no experience. Fresh ideas. No baggage or preconceptions. Might be what the city needs to turn things around.”
▪️ “She did the best she could but I think undeniably the transit in Ottawa is worse than when she started.”
▪️ “City council didn’t push the province enough to get the operating funds Ontario is supposed to pay. I hope they will do a better job keeping OC Transpo out of Metrolinx’s operations.”
▪️ “She rarely gave public updates, her English was terrible and public transit is worse since her tenure.”
