🚊 NO Train: Day 0️⃣ continues

Here is today’s updates on the O Train.

  •  The Confederation Line continues to run a limited, single-carriage service on the full line.
  •  CTV took a test run on both the O Train and the R1 Shuttle to find which was faster. Both were late, but the O Train was one minute faster. (Tyler Fleming at CTV)

    •  The strike may be coming to an end. Four hundred workers at Hydro Ottawa have been on strike for 52 days. The union and Hydro Ottawa have now agreed to binding arbitration over the final issues, including wages. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

    🏥 Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus

    •  Ottawa Public Health is warning residents to protect themselves against mosquitos after an Ottawa horse tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus. We mentioned before that a horse tested positive in the Valley but now one has been found within Ottawa city limits. The virus can can cause serious neurological disease and even death. (Ottawa Public Health)

    •  The police give a detailed explanation on how the Nation River Lady murder was solved. Nothing new about the suspect – the suspected murderer has been arrested – but many details on how this cold case was solved. (Daniel Leblanc and Denis Babin at CBC)

      •  McGregor’s Orchard is now open for the season. Pick your own Zinnias, buy lavender products from the farm store, and there may be some early Paula Red apples available.
      •  Ottawa Greek Fest continues with lunch served between noon and 2:00 pm and the evening’s programming starting at 5:00 pm.
      •  The town of Pakenham’s Come Home to Pakenham Festival opens Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm with a beer festival. Enjoy the fine beers, ciders, and spirits of Dairy Distllery (makers of Vodkow), Farmgate Cider, Cartwright Springs, Ridge Rock Brewing Co., Kin Vineyards and Cold Bear Brewing Co. Stewart Community Centre, 112 MacFarlane St, Pakenham.
      •  Immerse yourself in Celtic soundscapes at Art House café. This evening’s Celtic Illusions show combines electric instruments with traditional music. $15 at the door.
      •  A Company of Fools' production of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet plays parks and venues around Ottawa this summer. Tonight’s venue is at Walter Baker Park in Kanata. 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
      •  Dance all night to Progressive House music at Berlin, inside 56 ByWard Market Square.
      •  If you prefer to dance the hits and the hits only, you’ll need to be at House of TARG where DJ Remi Royal promises to spin them all, from the 1950s right through to today. The Summer Hits Dance Party costs $5 at the door. Bring money for the 30+ pinball machines and perogies.

      •  Say ‘So Long’ to August with a sunset meal featuring locally sourced meat and produce. Fiat Farm’s Harvest Celebration is an al fresco dinner under the willow trees on Saturday August 26. 
      •  Get out the Lederhosen: you’ll need them to take part in the Best Dressed competition at Cold Bear Brew Co’s Oktoberfest on September 23. $35 gets you entry to the festival, plus your own stein, as well as your first beer to drink from it. Or splurge on the $50 VIP ticket, which includes all of the above plus an Oktoberfest sausage, German potato salad, sauerkraut, and German streusel cake.
      •  On Saturday September 23, Chef Caroline from Corner Peach will be doing a free, live pie making demo at Vesta Design Centre, 1402 Star Top Road. Like we said, it’s free, but you must book a ticket.

      Due to an unexpected rent rise, Arnprior’s John St Vintage is pulling a big pivot and transforming into Johnies Vintage. They’re moving to new digs and inviting their friends to be part of this new vintage and consignment enterprise, describing themselves as “Arnprior’s first vintage vendor alley and plant shop hybrid.” Until the end of the month the old location at 109 John St N is offering 30% off all plants and 60% off pottery and decor.

      Dreamers Alicia and Matthew Ott have bought the 1930s-era Arnprior Bowling Alley and want to restore it to its former glory. Now renamed to Steelheads and Strikes, the couple are raising money to renovate it  – which will all be documented on a renovation tv show.
