The Poll

Yesterday, we asked how many days worth of events listings would you like to see in THE OTTAWAN each day.

42% Today, tomorrow, and the day after

19% Today and tomorrow

3% Just today

5% Just tomorrow

32% Once per week

That seems pretty decisive. We’ll stay with three days. And yes, we know it adds up to 101%. It’s a rounding thing.

Today’s question:

Are you in favour of Alto, the new High Speed Rail plan between Québec City and Toronto through Ottawa?

We welcome any comments ‘hello@theottawan.com’.

    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

    🚗 Gatineau

    •  The City of Gatineau is asking residents to turn in their neighbours with Ontario license plates. Residents now pay a new $90 per year vehicle fee, some of which goes to local transit. The City says that some people have moved to Gatineau from Ontario but have not changed their license plate within the 90 day limit, depriving the public of its rightful money.

Ontarians who have been turned in can avoid the fee if they can show that they do not live in Gatineau or that their property is a secondary residence.

    đŸ—łïž Ontario Election

    ⛞ ByWard Market

    • The diminutive synthetic skating rink on William Street in the ByWard Market has been removed. The ByWard Market District Authority has not said why the dinky rink was taken away.

    BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Andrew King in Ottawa Rewind comes up with another cracker: ‘Finding the first permanent house in Canada’s Capital Region
(Gasp! Built by an American?!)’. A small cabin was built by Philemon Wright 225 years ago. King finds the (probable) location – underneath the bike path in Gatineau’s Lac Leamy Park – and says that the Wright Farm Road, which still partially exists, is the oldest road in the Ottawa Valley.
