👕 Giant Tiger

•  Ottawa-headquartered Giant Tiger has partnered with national Indigenous charity Indspire in creating an exclusive orange shirt to raise awareness for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Designed by Ojibwe artist Patrick Hunter, 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to Indspire’s Learning from the Past Fund supporting Indigenous post-secondary students.  (Mario Toneguzzi in Retail Insider) (The shirts)

⚕️ Safe Injection Sites

• The Province says crime around the Somerset West safe consumption site is 250 per cent higher than the rest of the City – but neither the Province nor the police can back that up. The stats that are available show that violent crime decreased since the site opened in 2017, as did break and enter. But drug offenses and theft under $5,000 did go up. 🛒 ByWard Market

•  There is a new Metro grocery store in ByWard Market. The 132nd Metro store opened last week and will be named Metro Rideau. University of Ottawa students can get 10 per cent off every day through its student discount programme. (Grocery Business)

•  OC Transpo head Renée Amilcar refused to rule out a December start for the Trillium line. At yesterday’s light rail subcommittee meeting, Barrhaven East ward councillor Wilson Lo said the delays coming from OC Transpo over when the Trillium line would eventually open was on the verge of ‘ridiculousness’.  Amilcar responded with, ‘I prefer to be ridiculous today instead of giving something that you would like to hear.
