HELLO OTTAWA

The City’s Transportation Committee will have a special meeting tomorrow morning at 9 am to talk about purchasing 350 new electric buses.

In the past, this would have be a done deal: City staff said buy ’em, and councillors would have rubber stamped it.

Now in a post-LRT inquiry world, which recommended that council ‘exercise meaningful oversight of critical decisions made by city staff’, some discussion is happening.

The public can watch in person in the Champlain Room, City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West or watch it at home on YouTube or the City’s website..

    • Despite most delegations asking for Wellington Street in front of Parliament to remain open only for pedestrians and cyclists, the City’s Transportation Committee has approved automobile traffic by March 1st. 🎞️ Band á lmonte

    • Film enthusiasts in Almonte are looking for people interested in forming the Almonte Film Society. It's still early stages – what the format would be, what would be shown, who would bring the wine is all still undecided. If you'd like to help the society make it big, email to Marny McCook at rfmccook@gmail.com. 📮 Update

    • That 1851 12 Penny Black postage stamp on auction in Ottawa sold for $250,000 plus fees, for a total of $292,400. Darren’s Dad is going to be so miffed that his $249,999 bid missed. The winning bidder is already the owner of the Penny Black’s twin, which was once on the same sheet. As a kid, Darren tore the stamps off sheets of his Dad’s collection, you know, to be helpful. It turns out that stamp collectors do not like that. (CTV)

We spotted some very useful and stylish sale items at Chic & Basta. For example, the Belt Gardening Apron would be a great gift for the gardener in your life, but in our opinion it’s cute enough to warrant keeping for yourself. Handmade in Montréal. $20.

Today and tomorrow, Mint & Honey is offering an extra 10% off sale and clearance items. The 8” Taper Beeswax Candles by Ottawa’s The Wax Studio, now $11.60 (down from $14.50) and available in black, white, and natural yellow, caught our eye.

There’s a big sale at Up! Pants, with everything from ankle, full length, and cropped trousers at reduced prices. You’ll also find shorts and blouses.

I Love Tyler Madison also has great deals on womenswear at the moment.

The Kitchissippi Museum has a fantastic true story entitled ‘The 1934 Hintonburg-Island Park Drive Teenaged Car Chase and Shootout’. Read it, then cut your kids some slack.

We will see you tomorrow  – Martha and Darren
