HELLO OTTAWA

Hintonburgers are looking for support to save Plouffe Park.

The City is planning to build a needed integrated and sustainable community hub at 1010 Somerset – part of which is to build a new French-language school on top of Plouffe Park.

Residents say that the area is already has less greenspace than other neighbourhoods and a replacement park for Plouffe won't be built until at least 2030.

The Dalhousie Community Association has the details.

•  A man has been arrested for attacking two men Sunday, not knowing that they were cops. The two members of the Halton Regional police were not wearing uniforms or identifying items when they were attacked. The two were sent to hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries after the skirmish with four or five men. (Ted Raymond at CTV)

🌊 Play Free

•  Kids and teens 17 years of age and under have free skating and swimming until December. The City’s Play Free programme means free drop-in swimming every Saturday until December 30 and free drop-in skating every day until December 23. Times vary at each City pool and rink so check availability. (City of Ottawa)

💰 Royal Bank

•  Staff at the Bank Street Royal Bank called the Ottawa Police on a customer after being confused by her passport. The customer, who had banked at RBC for 15 years, was at her usual branch to pick up a new credit card. Asked to wait an hour, she was shocked to find that she was detained by police after she presented a second piece of ID after her health card, a passport that had an extra ‘R’ in her last name, differing from her bank account information. The woman said that she was treated like a criminal. She eventually did get her credit card. (Tyler Fleming at CTV)

•  Fed up transit riders are meeting at City Hall’s Marion Dewar Plaza for Transit Rally: We’re Done Waiting! 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. The event is organised by Free Transit Ottawa, Ottawa Transit Riders, Horizon Ottawa, and Ecology Ottawa.
•  The 6th Ottawa Korean Film Festival opens with a screening of director KIM Seong-hun’s recently released feature Ransomed. Free at the Ottawa Art Gallery, but a ticket must be reserved.
•  Synapcity presents a Session on Youth Engagement, at which organizations that work to increase youth engagement within their communities will update participants on their programs. Youth4Youth, Ottawa Youth Engagement Committee, Youth Action Now, and Smart Youth Network Initiative will all take part. 5:30 pm at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre.

•  The Human Library, a concept that originated in Demark more than 20 years ago, is a unique opportunity to spend 20 minutes “reading” a human with a story to tell. The reader chooses a human book from the list, and spends 20 minutes asking questions and learning about the experiences of the "book". Free at the Ottawa Public Library from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
•  Sanctuary, the second screening of the Ottawa Korean Film Festival, tells the story of a zoo head who dreams of transforming his workplace into the nation’s first animal sanctuary. The free screening takes place at the Korean Cultural Centre at 150 Elgin St, but you must reserve a ticket.
•  Goethe Institut will screen the short films of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the DARC Microcinema, Arts Court.

•  Today is Test Your Smoke Alarm Day. The City of Ottawa recommends that we all check our smoke alarms once per month, and replace the batteries each year. You should also replace your alarm every 10 years.
•  Did you know that the Metcalfe Fair, which opens today, moved to its current home in 1861? Now you do. The 167th edition of the Fair begins the day with judging of categories like Grains, 4-H Field Crops, Homecrafts, and Eggs. The gates and midway open at 4:00 pm, and the Demolition Derby gets underway at 7:00 pm. Day tickets and weekend passes are available.
•  In Kemptville, Harvest for Hospice - a Night Market Event will raise funds for the Beth Donovan Hospice. Food vendors will take care of your hunger, and there will be lots to keep the kids busy. 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Kemptville Campus Greenhouse.
