HELLO OTTAWA

  • Neil Saravanamuttoo and Parkways for People are looking for donations to help them hand out ice cream Saturday.

  • The group is organizing a showcase of cargo bikes on the Queen Elizabeth Driveway and Delaware Avenue at 11 am, Saturday, showing off the different styles and giving an opportunity to ask questions of the owners.

  • They hope to hand out ice cream to anyone passing by. Twenty five people at $20 each would probably do it. Email neil.saravanamuttoo@mac.com if you are feeling like being a dairy queen or king.

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🚧 Eastboro Development

  • People who bought homes in the Eastboro development in Orléans may finally be able to move in. The houses have been completed for a year but the developer and the City were in a dispute about how to allocate sewer costs. Construction to connect the neighbourhood to the sewer system may start in a month and take six. (Elyse Skura at CBC)

💸 Monthly Rental Report

  • The average rental in Ottawa is down $11 in June from May. The average Ottawa one-bedroom apartment rent was $2,179 in June, in May it was $2,190. However, in June 2023 that average apartment was $2,146, or $33 dollars cheaper. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

⛺ University of Ottawa Encampment

  • After 71 days, the encampment at the University of Ottawa has ended. A press release from Occupy Tabaret stated ‘legal action and police violence at student encampments across the country’ as the reason for the abandonment although one organizer said ‘We left because we wanted to … this round of negotiations [has] ended’. The campaigners wanted the University to disclose any investments in Israel. (Kavi Vidya Achar in the University of Ottawa Fulcrum)

🏎️ Highway 416

  • The speed limit on Highway 416 between the 401 and the Queensway increases to 110 km/h on Friday. This may come as a complete surprise to most 416 drivers as, to them, this appears to be a decrease. (Lucas Casaletto at CityNews)
