WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🚨 An Ottawa man has died after falling out of a stationary boat into the St. Lawrence River on Saturday evening.  – CBC

⚕️ An Ottawa woman's MRI was cancelled – after she had fasted and parked at the hospital - because she mentioned her doctor had recently retired. The health worker checking in Lisa Kis said the cancellation was because there was no way to bill for the MRI if Kis’ doctor had retired .  – Ottawa Citizen

🧊 Member of Provincial Parliament for Ottawa Centre, Catherine McKenney, who is also the NDP’s housing critic, plans to put forward a requirement that Ontario landlords must provide renters with air conditioning.   – Gabrielle Huston at CBC

🚨 A third Ottawa man has been charged with first-degree murder in the January 2025 killing of Barrhaven resident Wilson Sabarros. Michael Journal Prest was due to make a court appearance last Saturday.   – CBC

🚒 Ottawa firefighters extricated a 29-year-old woman from a flipped vehicle following a collision with a second car in Kanata on Saturday evening. The woman was transported to hospital in stable condition. The two occupants of the second car were able to exit their vehicle safely.   – Rachel Morgan at CityNews

🎓 Member of Provincial Parliament for Ottawa West-Nepean and NDP education critic, Chandra Pasma says the Province should step in to fund the Algonquin College Academic Assistance for Adults with Developmental Disabilities programme, which it says will be cancelled next spring due to loss of funding.   – Jodie Applewaithe at CBC

THE DAILY POLL

This was asked on Cross Country Checkup yesterday, and seems like a good question.

What do you think of e-scooters?

I ride them, and think they are great transportation

I’ve never ridden one, but they look like fun

I've tried, and they are vastly overrated

They are a menace and should be banned

  • Previously in ottawan polls:

  • We asked, ‘When do you think Richmond Road/Byron Road
    will be finished?

    • 2% This year

    • 15% Next year

    • 65% Before 2030

    • 18% Time is a flat circle, so Colonel By himself will probably need to deal with it

  • Commentary

▪️ “It’s a horrific nightmare. Noisy, dirty, dusty, expensive and terrible that trees are gone and for what? LRT that often isn’t working properly. Terrible city planning.”

▪️ “It is absolutely ridiculous how long it is taking and how negatively it is affecting that whole area, mostly the businesses. Most days no one is even there working.”

▪️ “Funny that 2030 sounds like more than 5 years away!”
