QUOTE |
| In its new 20-year urban forestry management plan, the City of Ottawa has committed to combat a growing problem: tree inequity |
– The lead paragraph in the CBC story ‘Why do Ottawa's racialized and low-income neighbourhoods have fewer trees?’. The City wants 40 per cent of Ottawa space to covered with a tree canopy but newer, more car-centric parts of Ottawa have fewer trees than the older areas. After a new survey, the City hopes to have tree coverage rates mapped out by next year. | | Gabrielle Huston at CBC |

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT |
☢️ Strikes |
▪️The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has made an order against a company involved with Ottawa’s longest running strike. The Commission has ordered Best Theratronics Ltd to ‘cease operations of any particle accelerators it possesses and the use of any nuclear substances that are required for manufacturing’. Located on March Road in Kanata, the company makes devices used in cancer radiation therapy. Forty employees have been on strike for 201 days. | | William Eltherington at CTV |
➕ Related The City says that just because Canada Post is on strike, you still need to pay your utility bill. Even if you have not received it. |
🚨Ottawa Police Service |
▪️Two cousins of active Ottawa Police Service officers have been charged in a large drug bust that arrested 17 people. The brothers are cousins to two of the five Ottawa police officers who launched a lawsuit against the Service last year, which alleged the Service ‘racially discriminated against them and illegally wiretapped them and their family members in 2021’. | | Shaamini Yogaretnam at CBC |

BUT, ONE MORE THING … |
A print of the 300 year-old ‘Beaver Map’ has sold for $3,700 at auction in New York. The map, so called because of the extra care the artist took of illustrating a few dozen beavers working away in the corner, depicts Britain’s North American holdings in the early 1700s. Here’s a decent view of the map. |
