🚊 NO Train: Day 3️⃣

Here are today’s updates on the closure of the Confederation Line.

  •  An accident with an R1 Replacement bus killed a pedestrian on St. Laurent Boulevard.
  •  Incredibly, OC Transpo is attempting to blame the weight of Bluesfest crowds for contributing to the busted bearing that shut down the Confederation Line. (Sarah Kester at CBC)
  • Premier Doug Ford says money for Stage Three of the O Train will be withheld until issues are solved. Stage Three would expand the O Train to Barrhaven and Kanata. (Josh Pringle at CTV)
  •  An OC Transpo employee says there ‘are hundreds of bad axles lying around in a corner at the 805 Belfast Road compound’. (Ottawa Bulldog)
  •  The Amalgamated Transit Union says OC Transpo plans to lay off 27 cleaners to deal with budget shortfalls. (Ted Raymond at CTV)

    🚅 High Speed Frequency Train

    •  The Federal government has made a shortlist of three companies to bid on a high-frequency passenger rail line between Quebec City and Toronto. Two of the bidders are Intercity Rail Developers and QConnxiON Rail Partners. The third is Cadence, a consortium which includes SNC-Lavalin. SNC-Lavalin, as a partner with the Rideau Transit Group, is currently doing stellar work maintaining the O Train.  The Government is asking for two proposals from each group: a 200 kmh dedicated line, and another with faster trains.     ✉️ Sewer Mail

    •  The City wants everyone to know that letters from Service Line Warranties of Canada is legitWater, power, and sewer lines on homeowners’ property between the street and their house are not the responsibility of the utility. The Warranties company offers to insure damage to the lines but many people think that it is a scam, particularly as it uses the City’s logo on the ad material. Expect the proposal in your mailbox next week. (City of Ottawa)
