The Ottawa Jazz Festival Line-up has been released

Headliners this year include Melody Gardot, Lord Huron, Buddy Guy, and Herbie Hancock. 

The Ottawa Jazz Festival runs from June 23 to 30 – but unlike previous years, there will be no free day.

    • Michael Wollock
    • The newspaper publisher has retired after 50 years. In the early 2000s, Wollock sold his chain of eight Ottawa newspapers to Toronto Star parent company Torstar. In 2017, Torstar swapped them for Postmedia papers in different cities. When Torstar and Postmedia turned around and shut down 24 papers, Wollock was so incensed that he returned to the capital city to set up four new Ottawa Voice newpapers. (Ottawa Voice PDF)

    • Renée Amilcar, the general manager of OC Transpo, is rumoured to be the leading applicant to run Boston’s transit system. Amilcar has been on the job for only 18 months. Previously, she ran Montréal’s buses. (Blair Crawford in the Ottawa Citizen)

    🏒 The Sens

    • Nine groups have made offers to buy the Ottawa Senators, with some offering more than US$900 million for the team. Now that last week’s deadline for offers has passed, a shortlist will drawn up. The National Hockey League hopes that the sale can be made before the end of the regular season, in June. (Scott Soshnick and Eben Novy-Williams at Sportico)

    📱 TikTokked

    • The City of Ottawa has banned the TikTok app on municipally-provided cellphones, following similiar bans by the Province and the Federal government. The Ottawa Police Service has already removed the app from the Service’s phones. The City of Gatineau has asked employees to remove it from their phones. The various governments fear that the app can collect personal data from phones and store it at TikTok’s headquarters in Beijing, where there is no serious protection from the Chinese government gaining access to it.     🦅 Biden drop by

    • US President Joe Biden has set the date for his Ottawa visit: March 23 and 24. Biden will also given an address to Parliament. (Politico’s Ottawa Playbook)

    • The Westboro Legion welcomes Vintage PopUp 613’s Spring Into Vintage event from 11:00am to 6:0pm. There will be vintage. There will be art. There will be makers of many cool things. Entry by donation. Proceeds will go to Cornerstone Housing for Women. 
    • There’s a lot going on at Mādahòkì Farm this month, starting with today’s Indigenous cooking class featuring Bison Chili and Bannock.     • Thompsontown Maple Products postponed their Ceremonial First Tapping last Saturday, due to the massive dump of snow we received in the region. The new event is now today from 10 am to 1 pm. Along with the official tapping, there will be speeches, an interactive maple display, and a tour of the sugar camp. Plus fresh baked goods, Fluid Solar Roasted Coffee, and maple taffy. 780 Black Rock Lane, Clayton, ON 
    • The Soca Kitchen brunch menu is available Saturdays and Sundays, and alongside classic brunch offerings you’ll enjoy Mimosas at just $5 each.
