While we mentioned last week that the distillery had expanded to Hawkesbury, Mantha talks of how expensive the booze business turned out to be, as well as his plans to be Ottawa’s largest whisky maker. ▪️ And, of course, it wouldn’t be a day with a ‘y’ if Hum didn’t write about something sweet. He’s found Hallowe’en inspired ice-creams, Cookie Monster and Candy Bar, at the Merry Dairy. ▪️ After 40 years, Yangtze Restaurant in Chinatown is closing in mid-November. While the third generation operators have found new jobs, their father jokes ‘after a year or two they'll open up a dumpling restaurant’ like their founding grandfather. ▪️ Jill Wherrett in The Mainstreeter recommends a trip to the three vineyards of Ottawa’s ‘emerging’ wine region: Jubilani Vineyard and Winery, KIN Vineyard and Winery, and Riverhouse Vineyard and Winery. ▪️ The No Name grocery store opens today in Brockville. A new concept in Loblaw’s portfolio, the new No Name store is intended to be as inexpensive as possible. Of course, it carries the yellow-adorned No Name items and some frozen food but it won’t stock fresh dairy or meat. |
