We’re back from that other Capital.

It was only eight hours to drive down but congestion and construction made it a 12 hour journey back home.

Nonetheless, it was a great impromptu 48 hour diversion. You can consider this permission from us to say yes, the next time you need to make a spur of the moment decision.

    •  The City will continue to advertise on Facebook and InstagramOrléans West-Innes ward councillor Laura Dudas wanted the City to boycott Meta, the owner of the two social media sites, after it announced that it would not pay for links to Canadian news sites as mandated by a new Canadian law. Twenty per cent of the City’s public relations advertising goes to the two websites. Council voted to keep the advertising in a 12 to 10 vote. The Federal government, as well as the Ville de Gatineau have pulled their advertising already. (CBC)

    ☎️ Emergency Mental Health Line

    •  City Council has approved funding a new dispatch line for mental health emergencies. The idea is specialized teams could be sent to deal with people in distress rather than regular police officers. It will take a year or so to develop the service. (The Canadian Press)

    •  Air France will continue to fly from Ottawa, at least through the winterThe airline, Ottawa’s only connection to Europe, has transported 4,000 passengers since its first flight July 27. (Josh Pringer at CTV)

    🚗 Queen Elizabeth Driveway

    •  Kitchissippi resident Mayor Mark Sutcliffe really doesn’t like opening streets to pedestriansThe Mayor thinks the closure of Queen Elizabeth Driveway on weekends disrupts traffic to Lansdowne.     •  Both golfers who were struck by lightning on a Carp golf course June 26 have diedThe two were playing golf at Loch March Golf & Country Club during a severe thunderstorm warning when they were hit by lightning. Both were transported to hospital. (CBC)

    Listen to the Lake FM 88.1 “All About the House” programme – it’s in Perth but most people in the Ottawa area can receive it or you can listen online – as they run a one-hour Radiothon to benefit the Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust. This year the Trust celebrates 20 years of preserving the natural lands and landscapes of this area that is just a short drive West of Ottawa. Once the broadcast is complete, the MMLT’s phone lines will stay open until 6:00 PM to take donations. 8 am.
