    • – The filmmaker and submariner spoke at the launch of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society’s new exhibit, ‘Pressure: James Cameron into the Abyss’ yesterday. The exhibit, which includes the submersible, Deepsea Challenger, that Cameron used to visit the Mariana Trench, is free until Sept 1. Alex Trebek Theatre, 50 Sussex Drive.     •  The Senator who insulted downtown residents who complained about the Convoy siege has been found to have violated the Senate's code of conduct. Quoth Senator Michael MacDonald of Nova Scotia, ‘It's everybody's f--king city, this is the capital of the country. It's not your goddamned city just because you have a six-figure salary and you work 20 hours a week. You haven't worked a full week in two years. It's sickening.’ He also insulted his wife, calling her a ‘Karen’. (Dylan Robertson at CBC)

    🪧 Federal Civil Service

    Some housekeeping from the strike

    •  The Public Service Alliance of Canada and the Treasury Board have signed five agreements for 150,000 employees who went on strike two months ago
    •  Parks Canada start the ratifying votes for their agreement
    •  The employees of the International Development Research Centre have come to an agreement after mediation
    •  Statistics Survey Operations will join Program and Administrative Services for negotiation purposes next time.

    😬 Duck and Cover

    •  The Federal government is updating policies regarding a nuclear attack. Using the Freedom of Information Act, notes have revealed a ‘rapid refresh’ of plans to relocate the Prime Minister's Office, the federal cabinet, Parliament, and the Supreme Court to an alternate site outside the National Capital Region in case of a nuclear attack. The Diefenbunker has been ruled out as a suitable location. (Jim Bronskill in the Canadian Press)

    •  Mirror Mountain Film Festival (Until July 23) celebrates original, independent, and experimental films from around the world. The films range from documentaries to experimental shorts to animation. $10 per event or $35 for a weekend pass.
    •  Check out the 60th anniversary, newly restored print of Jean-Luc Godard's French New Wave classic Contempt, at the ByTowne Cinema. Also playing July 22 and 26.
