This edition was produced at the Innovation Way Starbucks as the power at THE OTTAWAN compound has been out since last night. Not only is it a very brief edition, we’re holding off the Wednesday Dining + Drinking Update until tomorrow when we’re less flustered. Our heart goes out to all Sens fans whose viewing was cut short and who missed a beautiful shutout. But jinx-wise, maybe it’s because we couldn’t see it that they won? 💸 As for today, it’s the deadline for filing your personal taxes. Don’t forget. 🎂 Birthday Shoutout Happy Birthday to OTTAWAN member Laura M! – Martha and Darren |

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT |
🏈 The Ottawa RedBlacks selected former University of Montana pass catcher Keelan White, offensive linesman from Calgary, Sam Carson of the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, Northwestern Oklahoma State defensive lineman Muftah Ageli, University of Ottawa defensive back Eric Cumberbatch, Wilfred Laurier linebacker Jayden Griffiths, East Texas A&M University defensive back King Ambers, and Wilfred Laurier receiver Ethan Jordan in yesterday’s CFL draft. The RedBlacks preseason begins May 30. – Don Brennan in the Ottawa Citizen 💰 The City’s Auditor General says the public has been confused about where money from redlight camera fines should have gone. When the cameras were approved, the money from fines was intended to go to road safety iniatives, however of the $41 million, around $32 million went to general revenue and $8.4 million went to the Ottawa Police Service. Nathalie Gougeon said that she’s not saying that the City is not funding road safety – it is – but is saying that the Ottawa Police should report on how it is using the funds. – Aedan Helmer in the Ottawa Citizen
🎧 The 613 has dropped a new Municipal Panel podcast. Former journalists Jon Willing, Joanne Chianello, and economist Neil Saravanamuttoo discuss how the election of a new Federal government will affact the city. – The 613 |

MADE IN CANADA DEALS OF THE DAY |
Margriet, princess of Ottawa and the Netherlands, will return to the city to celebrate the Canadian Tulip Festival, which coincides with the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, May 9. Margriet, of course, was born in 1943 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital when the Dutch royal family went into exile after the Netherlands was invaded by Germany. To ensure that the new baby would remain in the line of succession and not automatically become a British subject, Canada declared a ‘bubble’ around Margriet’s mother Crown Princess Juliana as ‘extraterritorial’, protecting her status. |
