WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️Gloucester-South Nepean councillor Carol Anne Meehan will not be running again for her seat. As ward boundaries are changing, Meehan originally considered running in the Barrhaven East ward, ultimately changing her mind. ‘I am now at a stage in my life that it’s possible to consider tackling different pursuits and checking off items on my bucket list,’ she wrote. The former CTV Ottawa anchor was first elected in 2018. [Barrhaven Independent]

▪️There is a bus replacement service on the O Train between Tunney's Pasture and St-Laurent. Lightning struck an overhead power system, knocking out the system. We can add lightning to winter weather, need for regular maintenance, and trying not to puncture sewer lines on the list of O Train gotchas. [CBC]

+ Related All trains with more than 175,000 km have been removed from service after an operator noticed vibrations on one

▪️Parishioners want proceeds of church sale to benefit residential school survivors; the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall disagrees. St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church on Fairbairn Street has been unused since 2019 and listed for sale privately, expecting a price between $1.5 and $3 million. Congregants were originally told by the Archdiocese that the property had been sold but it in fact had only been transferred to the church’s property holding corporation. [CBC]

▪️The new pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Rideau River between Carleton University and Vincent Massey Park has been dropped in. The opening date is as yet unconfirmed. Capital Ward councillor Shawn Menard (Not Mendez! Not Mendez!) figures it can open in as soon as four months. [Ottawa Citizen]

▪️In the not-really news dept: You can go river edge glamping in a geodesic dome in Clarence-Rockland. Each dome comes with a queen-sized bed, stocked fridge for the BBQ kitchen, and killer views of the Ottawa RIver and Laurentian Mountains. [The Review] [AirBnB]
