WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT |
😾 Eastern Ontario Cats |
▪️The Eastern Ontario Cats charity is under investigation on allegations of abuse, neglect and falsified medical records. The Province has initiated an Animal Welfare Services investigation after the organization was accused of holding cats in tiny cages and promising vaccinations that never occurred. | | William Eltherington at CTV |
➕ Related Cattle spilled onto Highway 401 near Kingston, injuring some, after the homemade trailer built by a Montréal man failed. |
🚨 Ottawa Police Service |
▪️The Ottawa Police Service is delaying body cameras until 2026. Deputy Chief Steve Bell says that as the 2025 police budget increase is only 2.9 per cent, the service does not have the money. The increase in the $372 million budget is $15.3 million, the body cameras will cost around $400,000. | | Kimberley Molina at CBC |
🎣 Golden Lake |
▪️Volunteers say that Provincial red tape is preventing them from restocking Golden Lake with walleye. While Golden Lake – 25 km southwest of Pembroke – was once the fishing hole of choice for walleye, fishing was halted in 207 due to a drop in fish. The main problem stems from the Province designating the volunteer group as commercial aquaculture, requiring up to $90,000 in studies. | | Trevor Pritchard at CBC News |
