    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

💤 A new hotel will open downtown this month. The 159 room AC Hotel by Marriott Ottawa Downtown will open April 24 in the ByWard Market. Marriott describes its AC Hotels as a ‘refined, European-inspired experience’ and promises ‘craft cocktails and tapas in the evening’. – TravelWeek

🏒 The Professional Women’s Hockey League will conduct its third annual entry draft June 24 in Ottawa. The draft will be held at the by-then newly opened Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, which will hopefully have hired its 600 employees. – John Wawrow in the Associated Press

💪 Perth council has voted against receiving ‘strong mayor’ powers. The Province announced last week that 169 municipalities would gain the powers, which allow mayors, amongst other things, to hire and fire department heads and create or dismiss committees. Ottawa mayor Mark Sutcliffe promised that he would not use the power in Ottawa and, so far, has not. – Ted Raymond at CTV

🌳 City councillors Shawn Menard (Capital),  Stéphanie Plante (Rideau-Vanier), Sean Devine (Knoxdale-Merivale), Theresa Kavanagh (Bay), Marty Carr (Alta Vista), and Riley Brockington (River Ward) have signed the ‘Elbows Up For Climate Action’ open letter. The letter, which has been signed by 157 mayors and councillors across Canada, urges the Federal leaders to deal with tariff threats by using good climate action projects.– Maia Tustonic in the Ottawa Citizen

Now imagine how it’s going to feel to bask in the glow of the admiration of your nearest and dearest as a hot summer sun sinks lower on the horizon. Split Tree can make this happen with the Spritz Cocktails Workshop on Saturday June 28.

    BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Bruce Deachman in the Ottawa Citizen thinks a Sens Mile is not enough: he wants a Sens square mile, with Sens passports to encourage visiting different restos, those pedal pub/buses things, a Westminster-style dog show of fan’s pets, and to turn the actual Senate into a viewing room.
