| | BUT, ONE MORE THING … | Lynn Saxberg in the Ottawa Citizen details the day-by-day events that occurred after 30-year Château Laurier employee Bruno Lair discovered that Yousuf Karsh’s Winston Churchill portrait was missing, including general manager Genevieve Dumas’ verification of the fake signature with a handwriting expert, the week that passed before the Ottawa Police Service became interested, and the photo by CBC reporter Paul Hunter that narrowed down the date that the swap happened. The portrait was eventually sold by Sotheby’s in London to an uninvolved Italian collector, who turned it over to the Canadian embassy in Rome. | The rehung portrait will be unveiled at a ceremony on Friday in the newly renovated Zoe’s Lounge. | While many copies of the portrait were made while Karsh was alive, he donated the negative to Library and Archives Canada in 1992 and no further reproductions are permitted. | | | DAILY QUALITY CONTROL | What did you think of today’s OTTAWAN? | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great ⭐⭐⭐ Satisfactory ⭐ Needs Improvement |
