| OTTAWAN OF THE DAY | Wayne Hannan | - The 86 year-old successfully fought Scouts Canada over unfair dismissal as a volunteer after 66 years. In a letter, the organization dropped Hannah as a ‘Scouter’ citing ‘safety concerns’ and a ‘resistance to program adaptation’. The former Queen’s Scout went to court, where the judge ruled ‘There is little doubt that viewed objectively, the applicant has been treated shabbily and denied any semblance of due process’ and the allegations were ‘deeply unfair to an elderly and long-serving volunteer’. The Scouts were ordered to pay $50,000 in costs. | | Andrew Duffy in the Ottawa Citizen |
