The Ottawan

HELLO OTTAWA

A people-less Confederation line will go into service this week.

The City's transportation manager says the the full system will start running trains as normal, stopping at stations and making announcements, but without the inconvenience of passengers, who are still relegated to replacement bus service.

There is no set date for reopening the Confederation Line but the City previously hoped to open at half-strength 'in the first two weeks of November'.

It’s a start.

We'll see you tomorrow – Martha and Darren

The competition is keen. There are so many more choices, the choices themselves are so much harder. The nomination round created a much broader and deeper bench of deserving local businesses.

We don't envy your work this year.

But it's work that you must do.

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

▪️Fertility doctor who fathered hundreds of babies of unwitting clients reaches settlement. Dr Norman Barwin has agreed to pay $13 million to 244 parents and children whose artificial insemination programme ended up being Barwin, or mixed up with someone else. [CTV]

▪️Over 300 Afghan refugees are still looking for homes in Ottawa. The Afghanis were able to escape the Taliban takeover in August and were welcomed to Ottawa, but have been living in hotel rooms ever since. The lack of affordable housing in Ottawa is the main reason but lack of proper immigration papers also hinders job hunting and landlord checks. [CBC]

▪️Air North will resume flights between Whitehorse and Ottawa in the Spring. Air North suspended their Whitehouse - via Yellowknife - flights in March 2020 due to the Pandemic. Regular service will resume in April although there may be some flights around Christmas. [Cabin Radio]
