HELLO OTTAWA

The Ottawa Police Board has extended its search for a citizen appointee by two weeks.

The seat became available after chair Gail Beck resigned in the wake of her son being arrested for drug offences. A new chair will be appointed before the regular Monday board meeting.

If overseeing the police suits you, find out the details and apply here. Board members sit for a period of three years.

Congratulations to the winners of our free tickets to the Capital Wedding Show. All winners have been notified.

– Martha and Darren

      📋 Agenda

      WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

      🚨 Ottawa Police Service

      •  Ottawa Police plans on appointing special constables to accompany or hold in custody people who have been detained under the mental health act. These special constables will also be given traffic control powers. (William Eltherington at CTV)
      •  The Ottawa Police used force against Black residents 3.1 times their share of the population and Middle Eastern residents 1.7 times their share of the population according to the Service’s own report.  (William Eltherington at CTV)

      🏒 Lansdowne 2.0

      •  The replacement of the TD Arena will reduce seating from 8,585 to 5,000. Despite sell out crowds for Ottawa’s Professional Women’s Hockey League team – which set a ticket record – the new arena is scheduled to be smaller. (Sam Houpt at CTV)

      🛒 Reusable Containers

      •  Walmart, Sobeys, and Metro stores will be testing out resusable containers in their Ottawa locations this April. Certain food items – as yet undetermined – would be packaged in reusable containers, which customers can return to drop off locations. The idea is to reduce single-use plastics. (Natalia Goodwin at CBC)

      THE OTTAWAN T-SHIRT
