📚 National Capital Commission

•  The National Capital Commission has bought the former Chapters location on Rideau Street. The Commission has not yet said what it wants to do with the building but did say, ‘This building was purchased because it is considered part of the National Interest Land Mass due to its prominent location along Confederation Boulevard, and its potential to bring new life to this area of the downtown core’. Chapters itself relocated across the street to Rideau Centre in 2022. (Ted Raymond at CTV)

•  The Ottawa Humane Society is warning that pets are at risk from the cold weather this week. Outdoor cats in particular are in danger, as are dogs going for walks without proper gear. People who find an outdoor stray at risk can call 311. (Toula Mazloum at CTV)

• Here’s an out-of-town event for slow fashion fans. Made in Toronto: A Conversation with Fair Fashion Women Founders will explore greenwashing, what it’s really like to run a Made in Toronto brand, and more, with the founders of four women-led ethical fashion brands Mayana Genevière, Shopwise, Irsraella Kobla, and Encircled.
