– The number of years that the Fleet Street Pumping Station has been sucking water from the Ottawa River into the pipes of the City. Built originally to feed water for firefighting purposes, it was later retrofitted to supply drinking water in an age when residents either used wells or bought water from door-to-door sellers. | | City of Ottawa |

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT |
🏠 Housing |
▪️The City has bought a former nunnery to provide transitional housing to newcomers. The Sisters of Charity of Ottawa sold Maison Notre-Dame-de-la-Providence to the City for $11 million. The property consists of 26-acres, with a two storey building capable of housing 150 people in the middle and a separate residential house. The City says the building will reduce the need for emergency shelters in community centres. | | Ted Raymond at CTV |
|
|
❤️ Defibrillator |
▪️The City’s first outdoor defibrillator has been placed in St Luke’s Park off Elgin Street. The machine has step-by-step instructions for use to assist anyone who has not actually used the machine on a heart attack sufferer. The defibrillator was donated by the Canadian Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes Foundation. | | Joshua Marano at CTV |

🚨 High Speed Zamboni |
▪️A Zamboni driver in Chelsea has been arrested for drunk driving on the rink. The 25 year-old was operating the Zamboni between two matches when he drove it into the boards. Local police were called by spectators who believed the driver might be impaired, and a sobriety test was given before his arrest. | | Morgan Lowrie in the Canadian Press Video of the crash |

|
🛒 Grocery Flyer Review |
▪️Every week, new grocery reviewer Stromanker reads all the local flyers and posts the deals on Ottawa Reddit. For Hallowe’en candy Food Basics has a slight edge. And apples are a deal everywhere. | | /Ottawa |

|
➕ Related The new T&T Supermarket has opened, potentially rehabilitating Ottawa’s saddest shopping centre: Hazeldean Mall at the corner of Hazeldean and Eagleson. |
➕ Related Ottawa Public Health says the monthly cost to feed a family of four in Ottawa is $1,244, up $48 from last year. |
❄️ Snow Plows |
▪️The names of snow plows as suggested by the kids of Ottawa have been selected. And, god save us all, Plowy McPlowface made the list. How can we expect Council to navigate Lansdowne 2.0 and the O Train issues if it can’t avoid the lamest name possible? Clearing your roads this winter will be: Sir Plows a Lot Austin Plowers Shiver Me Blizzards Han Snowlo Blizzard Wizard Plowsaurus Rex Edward Blizzardhands Snow Big Deal Jon Bon Snowvi Snowbi Gon Kenobi Sherlock Snowmes Taylor Drift You’re a Blizzard, Harry Snowmageddon Fast and Flurrious Flurious George You Don’t Snow Me Plowy McPlowface SnowMore Good Snowmens Tim Snowtons Pacman contre la neige Croque-neige Beacon Hill-Cyrville ward councillor Tim Tierney said those were the 24 names. You can see that there are only 23. | | Tim Tierney Twitter |
