📤 Vacant Unit Declaration

The City has four drop-in clinics next week for property owners who still have not made their Vacant Unit declaration despite the deadline of next Thursday.

Everyone who owns property in the City must declare whether or not it is occupied and, if not, pay a tax.

Seven per cent of property owners have still not made their declaration.

Property owners who do show up will be able to make their declaration onsite.

The 100 year-old Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service veteran was honored Tuesday for her contributions to the navy as a morse code operator during the Second World War. From New Brunswick, she intercepted German U Boat messages and sent them on to the codebreakers at Bletchley Park in the UK. (Liam Fox in the Ottawa Citizen)

🗳️ Local Democracy

The Ottawa Carleton District School Board shut down a public meeting and called police after the chair, trustee Nili Kaplan-Myrth, did not want to continue on the topic. This is only days after the Ottawa Police Services Board has enacted rules to limit the public’s voice by requiring all delegations to provide word-for-word transcripts in advance. The man who was cut off asked about the Board changing school washrooms to mixed sex and when was that policy enacted by trustees. He left before the police arrived. 🌊 Flood Warning

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority and the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority are warning that there could be floods this year, after having, at 308.5 cm, the second highest snowfall in 20 years. Houses in low-lying areas alongside the Ottawa, the Rideau, the Carp, and the Mississippi rivers are at risk. (Josh Pringle at CTV)

🖌️ Paint it up!

Youth between the ages of 12 and 25 are invited to paint murals across the City. To avoid being fined for graffiti, artists must send their proposed mural and location for approval by ByLaw services by March 23 and submit the full application to Crime Prevention Ottawa by April 14. An online information session will be held on March 22. (City of Ottawa)
