The Canadian Council of Muslim Women has organized a vigil this evening in memory of three generations of the Salman family killed in London yesterdayby a man driving a truck who apparently had premeditated plan to kill Muslims.

The City has added two more centres to beat the heat today. Doors are open until 7pm.

COVID-19 NEWS

⭕ The Province has moved up the date of Stage 1 reopening, after the population has surpassed 70 per cent vaccinated with a first dose. As of Friday, outdoor patios can open for tables of four people, non-essential businesses can reopen indoor service at 25 per cent capacity, and most outdoor attractions can reopen. [Ottawa Citizen]

⭕ Sources say that the US/Canada border will be reopened in stages, with fully vaccinated people being allowed first. July is being considered for the first stage date. [CBC]

⭕ Mayor Jim Watson wants 40,000 more doses of COVID-19 vaccine from the Province. Watson says the City has more appointments than vaccines. [Ottawa Citizen

⭕ New Edinburgh resident Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will quarantine for 14 days in an Ottawa hotel when he returns from the upcoming G7 meeting in the UK. Ottawa does not have officially designated quarantine hotels, which are all located in Toronto, Montréal, Calgary, and Vancouver  [CTV]

▪️ A bobcat is on the loose in North Grenville after being let loose from its cage. Brett Cody was one of several animals that were freed from Saunders Country Critter Zoo and Sanctuary, 60 km south of Ottawa, on Saturday. All the animals were rounded up except for Brett Cody. People who see a bobcat with grey-blond fur and black spots should call the OPP. Or don't. Brett is not considered harmful to people. [CBC]

▪️ The City of Gatineau wants its citizens to save water. Bylaw officers are patrolling the City, ensuring residents avoid washing their vehicles, filling their pools, and watering their lawns during the heat wave. [Ottawa Citizen]

▪️ The Ottawa Music Development Fund is handing out money to locally-based musicians and entrepreneurs. Applicants can apply for COVID-19 Relief Microgrants ($250), Creation Stream ($1,000), Concert Artist Fees ($500–2,000), and Collaborative Projects ($3,000). Deadline is July 8. [Apt 613]
