Weekend Plans ▪️ Vintage Pop-up 613 presents a Parking Lot Pop-Up at Vimy Brewing (145 Loretta Avenue North) this Sunday, August 1st from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Find local vendors like @spencerretrogaming, who sells classic and vintage video games, @littlebonesottawa, who fills terrariums with quietly dynamic scenes of moss, bone, dried florals, and other discarded items. Other vendors will be selling vintage fashion and home decor pieces. ▪️ Get out of the house but stay warm and dry with a visit to the Drive-in Experience. Choose your location: RCGT Park at 300 Coventry Road in Ottawa East or RBC Festival Field at Wesley Clover Parks, 401 Corkstown Road in Nepean, and reserve your spot. Tickets start at $38.21 per vehicle. This weekend is the launch of the Cîroc Courtyard, at the parking lot of Cornerstone Bar & Grill, 92 Clarence Street. Expect an eating, dining and live entertainment experience with the focus on greenery, natural wood accents, and good times. COVID-19 NEWS ⭕ One of the three conditions needed to move Ontario into the next stage has been met. Eighty per cent of people 12 years-old and older have been vaccinated with one dose. The Province requires 75 per cent of eligible people to have a second dose (we're at 68 per cent) and no health unit to be below 70 per cent double dosed before restrictions are lifed. [CBC] |

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT ▪️ Ottawa wants to start searching AirBnb, Vrbo and other sites for violations of the new short-term rental law. The City has put out a request for software that will automatically scan rental sites for Ottawa rentals and identify rule breakers. The new law limits short term rentals to principle residences and cottages only. Rentals are also limited to 10 persons. [CBC] [Request for Proposal] ▪️ Apartment tenants upset with landlord who neglected to tell anyone thieves stole bikes from storage locker. Thousands of dollars of bikes were stolen from the locker at Phoenix Apartments on Carling Ave. The landlord did not call the police or inform the tenants but did fix the broken window. [CBC] ▪️The City is looking to rename six parks and wants some feedback. The parks – including one ‘sitting area’ are:
The City wants comments via email – namingottawa@ottawa.ca – but no form. We all know the rules: if the City doesn't create an online form, it doesn't really want to know. ▪️The City is also looking for people to join the Anti-Racism Advisory Table, which will inform the City’s anti-racism strategy. The group will address six priority areas: employment equity, housing, governance, economic development, health outcomes, and youth development. All Ottawa residents from Indigenous and racialized communities that are 18 years of age and older are eligible to apply. The City has set up an application form here, so make of that what you will. ▪️A new electric car charger has been installed at the Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Centre in Orléans.
