National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Most Federal services will be closed Monday, as are most City of Ottawa offices

However, schools and recreation centres are open. The national museums and galleries in the Capital are open and free of charge Monday.

The City says that flags at all its sites will be lowered to half-mast from sunrise on Monday, September 30 to sunrise on Tuesday, October 1. At City Hall, the Survivors Flag will also be flown at half-mast from sunrise on September 30 to sunrise on October 1, in front of the Heritage Building and on Marion Dewar Plaza.

🆓The fourth annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation gathering happens at 3:00 pm on Parliament Hill. 

🆓 Assembly of Seven Generation (A7G) presents 90 minute Reconciling History Walking Tours in downtown Ottawa. 

🆓 From 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, the Sacred Space at Beechwood National Memorial Centre will be screening the short film Spirit Bear: Echoes of the Past.   Following the screening there will be a 45 minute Reconciliation Tour which points out some of the key historical figures of the Indian Residential Schools system.

🆓 Rose LeMay will lead a conversation with the community about the literacy to join reconciliation discussions with credibility, best practices for Indigenous inclusion, and how to support each other to make change.  2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at allsaints event space, 330 Laurier Ave east, K1N 6P9 

🆓 Join Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami at 100 Wellington Street in Ottawa and take part in family-friendly activities and view an exhibit describing Inuit history and self-determination. Open from 11am to 3pm. 

🆓 Digital Arts Resource Centre will screen My Indian Name on a loopfrom September 30 through October 4. 

If you want to observe the day in a more rural setting, communities in the Ottawa Valley will be holding events designed for reflection and learning

🆓 Road Trip: Mississippi Valley Textile Museum is presenting a day of Reconciliation Through Art. Experience art, drumming, music, dancing, and storytelling, as well as traditional foods. 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
