  • ‘B’ is for ‘butter tart’ and you’ll find many of them at the 3rd Annual Butter Tart Festival Market at the The Barn in Stittsville. Judges will do the official tasting starting at 11:30 am and announce the winners shortly thereafter, (and quite soon after that they’ll sell out). But the day is long and 16 bakers are taking part, so you’ll have plenty of tarts to sample. 

  • 🆓 The Ottawa Bonsai Society’s Bonsai Expo 2024 runs 10:00 am to 4:00 pm today and 10:00 am to 3:00 pm tomorrow at the Embassy of Japan, 225 Susses Dr. 

  • 🆓 The village of Manotick invites visitors to discover hospitality spots, live entertainment, and local shopping. Taste of Manotick (2:00 pm to 7:00 pm) offers sips and samples, entertainment, and the chance to donate to the Manotick Food Cupboard. 

  • Upper Canada Village’s weekend programming ends this Saturday and Sunday with the 1860s Fall Fair Weekend & Quilt Show. Immerse yourself in 19th century living with historical exhibits, a quilting bee and demos, the horse and cattle show, live music and even magic shows. 9:30am to 5:00 pm today and tomorrow. Admission fees apply. 

  • 🆓 Go behind the scenes for tours and presentations at some of the National Capital Commission’s sites with Open NCC (10:00 am to 3:00 pm). Some activities require advance registration. 

  • 🆓 The National Arts Centre’s SPHERE Festival has fun activities for the entire family, from workshops to music and dance. 10:00 am to 3:00 pm 

  • Road Trip: Wander the attractive streets, do some shopping in the stores and from local artisans, dine at one of the area restaurants or pubs, and experience the heritage beauty of the town during the Perth Night Market

  • Orléans Ribfest and Poutine continues. 

  • Meet local first responders at Carp Farmer’s Market Safety Day. The West Carleton 4-H Swine Club will also be on site, and you can shop from more than 80 vendors. 

  • If the hearing the words ‘Scotch Bonnet Peppers’ makes you crumble into a sweaty, crying mess (looking at you, Martha), it’s best that you avoid Heating Up the Capital. The 4th annual hot sauce expo is one day of hot, hot, heat that includes 40 vendors, the Capital Punishment Stage, entertainment, adult beverages, and food. Shaw Centre, 55 Colonel By Dr. 

  • Bands from Ottawa, Montréal, PEI, and beyond are rolling into the region for BC Black and Bluegrass Festival, 2:00 pm to midnight at Rideau Pines Farm in North Gower. Tickets $45. 

  • Today at CityFolk: On the TD Stage, Milky Chance headlines with guests Half Moon Run and Jamie Fine: Katie Tupper leads the line-up on the Fasken Stage and is supported by John Muirhead and Alanna Sterling; while Almyr Jules plays the Plaza.

  • 100 Canadian vendors are ready to sell you the best in handmade and vintage wares at the Cheerfully Made Fall Market. 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. $5 at the door (kids under 14 get in for free). Bell Sensplex 1565 Maple Grove Road, K2V 1A3.
