  • 🆓 ‘Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.’ The absurdism of 60-year old Cold War satire Dr Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb seems perfectly in tune with our weird world of 2024. Capital Pop-Up Cinema presents a free screening of the Kubrick classic at Beechwood Cemetery, tonight at dusk (around 8:45 pm). Bring your own picnic (be sure to take your trash with you), blanket, and lawn chair. Popcorn, gummies, and water will all be available for sale. 

  • Famous bluesmen Nickelback hit the RBC stage tonight at Bluesfest. Your general admission ticket will get you access to all stages and all performances. Tickets $110 including fees and tax. 

  • Rum Ragged headlines Almonte Celtfest, with special guests Mariner’s Curse. Tickets $30. There’s more great music all weekend but the festival doesn’t stop there. If you want to take up a new instrument or brush up your skills, check out the series of workshops happening on Saturday morning ($25 per student). On Sunday, there's a Fiddle Mass. All main stage performances are in Gemmill Park (182 Bridge St, Almonte, ON K0A 1A0), but you’ll also find talented buskers in the downtown area. Finally, food and drink vendors will be there to perk you up when your energy wanes. 

  • Music and Beyond summer music festival welcomes big names like the Phaeton Trio, Miloš, Utrecht String Quartet II, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Payadora Tango Ensemble, Hannaford Street Silver Band, and Armour & Lacroix, but we’re also intrigued by the way that the festival explores how music interacts with with other arts disciplines like Circus and Film. The festival runs today through July 17, with the main series happening at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre and Outside the Core events popping up around town. Single concert tickets and festival passes are now on sale. 

  • It’s all to, um, draw for at the Art Battle City Championships at Overflow Brewing, as the participants create artworks under pressure, in the hopes of moving on to the Canadian National Championships in Toronto. Who knew that art was a competitive sport?! 

  • A massive 12 sonic creators from Ottawa and beyond, at two different venues, all in a single night: That’s the music event that is Coriolis: 5 years of Fun, presented by Congrego and Montréal’s Also Cool. Head to Club SAW for the first part of the night, then make your way to city at night for part two. Tickets are $35 at the door, or $20 plus charges online. 

  • If the the Nickelback show at Ottawa Bluesfest doesn’t give you enough Nickelback, Emo Night Ottawa can help. They’re presenting A Love Letter to Chad at Berlin from 10:00 pm, where they'll be spinning hits from the band as well as some of your other alt-rock faves. 56 ByWard Market. 

  • That big top tent at 1200 St Laurent is the home of Cirque Italia’s Water Circus Gold show, in residence from today through Sunday (July 7).
