What Ottawa is Talking About – 30 July 2021

▪️ The National Capital Commission wants your feedback on their pathway system. The NCC operates pathways shared by pedestrians, joggers, in-line skaters, skateboarders, and cyclists along both sides of the Rideau Canal, along the Ottawa and Rideau Rivers, in Gatineau Park, and in the Experimental Farm, Watts Creek, the Aviation Museum, and Leamy Lake Park. Their web page is a pretty good source of maps and guides. [Old Ottawa South News] [Survey]

▪️ If you work at the Place du Portage III building of Public Services and Procurement Canada, you're going back to the office next week. The 225 employees are part of the Federal Government's pilot project to bring civil servants back into offices. [CBC]

▪️Developers want to demolish Hintonburg's old Elmdale Theatre for a highrise. The theatre, which has been occupied by CornerStone House of Refuge Apostolic Church since 1994, was opened in 1947 and is on the City's heritage register but does not have heritage designation. The City has 60 days from a demolition request to give something heritage status. The 18 storey tower would contain 240 apartments and replicate the marquee design of the old theatre at the entrance of a retail unit. [Ottawa Citizen
