What Ottawa is Talking About – 30 August 2021

▪️More than 2,000 students are being told to take OC Transpo as the school bus authority cancels 15 routes. The school bus system is short of drivers and can't staff the routes. [CTV]

▪️Thanks to the rain, the open air fire ban has been lifted. That's for people in rural Ottawa, of course. Those in the urban areas have never been allowed to burn stuff in their yard. [Ottawa Citizen]

▪️Gatineau is appealing demolition order of Aylmer mansion built too close to the road. The owner and the City were in a lawsuit over the mansion, the owners say that the City approved all permits for its construction, the City says that an employee made an error. Then a judge ordered the house demolished, which no one had asked for. [CBC]

▪️Discuss of Ottawa's Official Plan has been put back a month. The official plan, a provincially mandated blueprint for the City which indicates the areas to be gentrified, where transit will be located, what infrastructure goes where, and where new development can be built will now be discussed October 14.
